The Power of Positive Reinforcement

Yesterday I was privileged to attend the Environmental Achievement Awards sponsored by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.  Above is my fuzzy iPhone pic (from the back of the room) of the Governor’s speech.

It was basically a bunch of bureaucrats and corporate types congratulating each other.

And this is a beautiful thing.

Here’s why: when Lynnette Myers took hold of the program a few years ago, it was a relatively small effort.  Now the event fills a ballroom.  People need name badges and information packets.  The Governor even shows up.

All this fuss is made over things like reducing emissions, switching to less toxic industrial materials, recycling efforts on big AND small scales, and much, much more.  It’s become a game of companies “Out-Greening” each other in order to get the awards.  This works.

Lynnette Myers runs an efficient program, but I think the reason for its success goes beyond cat wrangling; Lynnette is also a master of the the power of positive reinfoircement.  It’s in everything she does.

Wanna hear my quick interview with Lynnette?  It’s here:

And take a look at the overachievers!
